What to Expect During HVAC Installation

What to Expect During HVAC Installation

It’s finally time for a new HVAC component, or maybe you’re overhauling the entire system. The installation appointment is booked and you couldn’t be more ready to upgrade your heating and cooling tech. Having someone in your home for an extended period of time can be unsettling for some homeowners, especially if this is their first time having their HVAC installed. Knowing what to expect can help assuage those anxieties, leaving more room for the excitement of a brand-new system!

Before They Arrive

Clearing the work area can be incredibly helpful to your technicians even before they arrive. Any antiques or expensive items should be moved to a safe space. While the technicians are expert HVAC installers, they aren’t trained movers and shouldn’t be responsible for rearranging the space, especially if valuable items are in question. Secure pets safely away from work areas, because as much as we love our four-legged friends, we don’t want them getting hurt or getting into the construction debris.

Professional Preparation

The first order of business once the crew arrives is to further protect targeted areas by laying drop cloths on all the flooring. Any heavy furniture or items that cannot be moved will be covered with plastic. Although professionals will try to keep it as contained as possible, the nature of your HVAC system being inside your walls could stir up dust and debris during removal and installation. Once everything is sufficiently covered, the tools are brought in and the real work begins.

Out With the Old, In With the New

Chances are strong that you have an old system or unit that has to be removed before anything else can go in. This process could extend the work area to attic areas, crawl spaces, and your basement. From here the crew will begin to disassemble and remove the old system from the house. Depending on your situation, ductwork repair or modification may be necessary at this point. Only once this is complete can the technicians start installing your new unit. This may also require minor electrical upgrades.

Most HVAC installations will take only one day, but in some cases, it may require a little longer to properly complete. If you have any questions about your upcoming HVAC appointment with McMillin Air, send us a message or give us a call at 928-684-5375.
